Paul Van Dyk
If polls don’t lie, Paul van Dyk is one of the world’s greatest DJs — at least according to DJ Magazine. The German-born trance aficionado took the magazine’s top slot in its annual poll of the world’s best record spinners in 2005 and 2006, and has consistently appeared on the poll every year since 1998. Unlike some of his peers, the versatile van Dyk is equally adept at crafting his own tracks in the studio as well as remixing and scratching for the masses. His last two artist albums, 2003’s Reflections (which received a Grammy nomination for “Best Electronic/Dance Album”) and 2007’s In Between, contain some of the most exuberant trance anthems to come out of the scene in recent memory. Cuts like the euphoric “Time of Our Lives” and sweetly melodic “Another Sunday” are ideal for getting the crowds moving at late-night outdoor raves…or North Coast Music Festivals.
