She hasn’t released a new album, but last year’s EP According To Us is still enough of a treat to hold us over. On According, veteran indie singer/songwriter Erin McKeown takes a turn for the gospel in the opening and ending tracks titled “Once a Bomb, Always a Bomb” and “The Queer Gospel,” respectively. The EP manages to showcase McKeown’s expansive lyrics and styles despite its brevity, transitioning from gospel and folk to the percussive and rhythmic “Where Did I Go.” In the realm of bigger messages, closing track “The Queer Gospel” is an open invitation of love and acceptance that we should all heed.
