King Krule

Regardless of which alias he chooses to go by, there’s no denying that King Krule is one talented 18-year-old. Born Archy Marshall and at times known under the stage name Zoo Kid, the British singer/songwriter has been writing music since the tender age of eight. Drawing influences from Elvis, Charles Bukowski and Fela Kuti, King Krule has created an eclectic “lo-fi dub” sound that is all his own — consisting of his sneering, soulful voice, angular guitar and not much else. Although he has yet to release a full-length album, his 2011 debut self-titled EP was famed for the hauntingly beautiful singles “The Noose Of Jah City” and “Portrait In Black And Blue.” When it comes to production and lyricism, Marshall is mature beyond his father’s years. He’s in no hurry to put out new material, as this is only the beginning for King Krule. (Sunday, 6:45-7:40, Blue Stage) –text: Valerie Wojs
