Le Butcherettes

When a band can catch the attention of a guitarist like Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, chances are they’re worth checking out. Punk-influenced band Le Butcherettes has been gaining recognition for their outrageous stage shows since 2009 in their home bases of Guadalajara and L.A. Now a 3-piece led by Teri “Gender Bender” Suarez, they consist of nothing but the essentials: guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and a tattered, bloody apron. On stage Suarez is overtaken by the “gender bender” animal, throwing herself every which way and stage diving like a pro. Musically they could pass as something from the ‘90s Riot Grrrl era, with whiplash tempo changes and 3-chord progression. Their second full-length album, 2011’s Sin Sin Sin, was highly praised for its balance of rage, politics, intelligence, and humor. For now, Le Butcherettes continue to win over crowds with general badassery while working on upcoming album Cry Is For The Flies.
