Redgrave

It’s hard to believe that the full-on, heavy rock sound of Redgrave emanates from a duo. But the powerful and gritty vocals of guitarist Angie Mead paired with the voluminous rhythmic beats of Stephan Howard create a raw, significant sound nonetheless. Redgrave developed in August of 2010 out of Mead’s Chicago home where, after replacing her furniture with recording equipment, she began endlessly writing and recording demos. What started as a hobby soon became a reality when Mead’s demos reached Howard, whose drums proved to be the perfect foil to her rich vocals. Their 5-song debut EP titled National Act is set to be released on June 12 featuring an ample rock sound with heavy, bluesy undertones topped off with the sultry, haunting tone of Mead’s voice. At long last, 2012 could be Redgrave’s year. (Appearing with Pelican at Lincoln Hall on June 29) –text: Amy Simms
