Sunday, 6:30-8:30

Miike Snow, The Big Pink, Zeds Dead, DJ Mel, and The Jezabels will be performing at Lollapalooza 2012 between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 5.

‏MIIKE SNOW
‏The remixers of remix. Hip and Swedish, this indie electro-pop trio have remixed (and been remixed) by artists such as Depeche Mode, Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend, Mark Ronson and Lykke Li. They even snatched a Grammy for recreating the Britney Spears track “Toxic”. Their Scandinavian sounds are moody, melancholy, complex, and melodious bounce-your-head music that will have you humming along to its beats for weeks. Recorded under the newly minted label INGRID (co-founded by Peter, Bjorn and John, Lykke Li and Dungen), Miike Snow recently released their second full-length album entitled Happy to You, a decidedly more low-key and lighthearted project that is a little bit calypso and definitely multilayered. Their true beauty lies in their understated versatility with albums that could be played at a house party, on a long drive, or in your mom’s kitchen. (Sunday, 7:15-8:15, Sony Stage) –text: Abby Yemm

‏THE BIG PINK
‏English electronic rock duo The Big Pink hit the scene in 2009 with A Brief History of Love, a haunting disk with songs ranging from the colorful hit “Dominos” to the playfully deviant “Frisk.” With their innovative chillwave-infused electro rock style, it’s no wonder these Londoners won NME’s Philip Hall Radar Award given to the best new artists that year. After having their songs used in commercials and ads, they now have a new album called Future This released on the artistically acute 4AD label and a tour to go along with it. If their driving, cinematic music isn’t enough of a reason to see Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell in action (and it is), remember that Cordell’s own label Merok Records put out early releases from bands such as Klaxons and Crystal Castles. A guy with an ear for that kind of talent has to be trusted. (Sunday, 7:15-8:15, Google Play Stage) –text: Lisa Mrock

‏ZEDS DEAD
‏Memorable music never fits within one genre; there are always bits and pieces of complimenting but divergent sounds melded together as one. Zeds Dead is certainly no exception. It can be dubstep, house, electronic, or even hip-hop, but whatever it is maintains the ability to blow you away. Zeds Dead, formally known as Mass Productions, is made up of DC and Hooks. They formed in 2004 but had not gained much popularity until 2009, when they started to offer free downloads of their productions online. Since then, Zeds Dead has skyrocketed through the dance music world with five international tours — not to mention the fact that their song “1975” was featured in a GQ Magazine video shoot with a Russian supermodel. Expect to hear a lot more of these guys in the future, as Zeds Dead is going to be alive and kicking for quite some time, especially Sunday night at Lollapalooza. ‏DJ MEL
‏Renowned for his technical prowess, DJ Mel’s home in Austin has prepared him well for large crowds. Performing in SXSW’s home city for almost 20 years, he’s been recognized multiple times as “Best DJ” at the Austin Music and Best of Austin Awards. DJ Mel often mixes mainstream party music with oppositional lesser-known songs. He is easily identifiable by the high volume of records and experienced energy that he brings to his performances. ‏THE JEZABELS
‏For five years, The Jezabels have been refining their unique sound. The Australian foursome met at the University of Sydney and have released four EPs and one LP to date, effectively winning over their home country with their intense indie stylings. Their powerfully melodic convergence of vocals and guitar set the table for the hyper-charged rhythm section to push their songs over the edge and into your brain.
