The Raveonettes

The Raveonettes were one of the coolest things to come out of the garage rock revival of the aughties, so what happened? Nothing, depending who you ask. This is both the criticism of cynics and the praise from fans who bask in the Jesus and Mary Chain-esque squalls of feedback, fuzz, and general disorientation that were The Raveonettes’ trademark from their first B-flat major single through several records of retro doo-wop-style pop bliss. In fact, the only time The Raveonettes seem to stumble is when they change up the formula, such as on 2009’s hazy, dance-clubbier In And Out Of Control. Now back to basics, the spacey, distorted, soul-surf duo is on a roll doing what they’ve done best for near a decade: driving fast cars through moody cinematic scenery while flying high on god knows what — and looking impossibly pretty while doing it.
