The pride of Dana Point, California, Growlers compose a sound that combines country, surf, pop, rock and big beat, all of which come together to create the sound now known as “beach Goth.” Their music consists of both heavy drum rhythms and high reverb guitar riffs resembling the sunny surf rock of the ‘60s, yet is tinged with a sadder tone in its lyrics to represent a more melancholy contemporary spirit. If their commitment to the genre on paper wasn’t enough, the band has also been hosting the Beach Goth Festival in nearby Santa Ana since 2012, bringing acts like Mac Demarco, Grimes, The Drums and Julian Casablancas together for a good-time romp in the California sun.
