Like the Michael Jordan of music, LCD Soundsystem refuses to quit at the top of their game. Following a highly publicized 2011 retirement that played out more like a 5-year hiatus, James Murphy’s crew of beloved hipster synth rockers returned last summer to triumphant headlining gigs at Coachella and Lollapalooza. 2017 brings even more news on the LCD front, with the band confirming the September 1 release of new album American Dream, their first since 2010’s This Is Happening. Teasing the album with a performance of lead single “Call the Police” on a recent episode of SNL, perhaps the only thing more exciting than a new LCD album is seeing them live as they run through their pristine back catalog of blissful danceworthy favorites from “Losing My Edge” to “Someone Great” to “Dance Yrself Clean”. On tour through Christmas capped by a 10-night closing run at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel, it’s safe to say that LCD can put off retirement for a few more years.
