Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada have taken a turn for the otherworldly in the first part of Moon Duo’s two-part opus, Occult Architecture. Enlisting the inspirations of magic and mythology within their expansive psychedelic sound, they mix it all together with synthesizers to create a deliciously creepy sonic adventure. Opening track “The Death Set” has a hazy, spacey vibe to it, whereas “Creepin’” shies away from sounding too far out there with a faster, more immediate sound. “Will of the Devil” makes you feel like you’re in a situation to be determined by greater forces out of your control, while “White Rose” leaves you wide-eyed and hungry for more.
