Saturday, 12-1:45
Milo Greene, Salva, Doomtree, Kopecky Family Band, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, Los Jaivas, Laura Warshauer, and Last DJ Standing Runner-Up will be performing at Lollapalooza 2012 between 12:00 and 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 4.

MILO GREENE
Like Givers, most of Milo Greene’s band members met in college (yes, Milo Greene is a band, not one person). Like Best Coast, they’re from California. But that’s as far as the comparisons go. These rising indie stars produce sunny songs with “oohs” and “aahs” in all the right places. Check out their song “1957” while cruising the California coast in a red convertible with the top down — or Saturday afternoon at Lollapalooza. SALVA
A dance music nomad both literally and stylistically, L.A.-based Paul Salva honed his DJ chops in Chicago and Miami prior to a productive stint in San Francisco, where he founded the broad-minded bass music label Frite Nite in 2008. Salva’s masterful command of the entire booty-centric canon from hip-hop, house, and funk to dubstep, electro, and juke shines through in his expansive live sets and tightly-constructed releases like the 2011 debut LP, Complex Housing. DOOMTREE
More of a loose collective than a proper hip-hop group, Minneapolis’ Doomtree has become one of the most interesting and forward-thinking groups in the genre. The group’s seven members devote most of their energies to individual hip-hop projects as well as punk and indie-pop side bands. Their diverse styles have cohered into densely brilliant verses, chant-along choruses, and the distinct beats of Lazerbeak and Cecil Otter as showcased on their latest album No Kings. KOPECKY FAMILY BAND
Kopecky Family Band’s rise to stardom can only be described as the perfect ascent. Making their name in festivals like Austin City Limits and SXSW, it only seems right that they bring the same well-knit, easy rock to Lollapalooza. An audience favorite, KFB has a “family” following of sorts. Discover this band on the rise and see why everyone wants to be a relative. JC BROOKS & THE UPTOWN SOUND
If you find yourself in one of the uncountable retro-soul bands that have cropped up over the last decade, take notes on JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound. Brooks and company know that blazing live performances are the only way to stand out above their many contemporaries as they regularly tear through songs from their excellent 2011 album Want More, including their frenetic horn-driven cover of Wilco’s “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart”. (Saturday, 12:00-12:45, Sony Stage) –text: Griffin Waterman

LOS JAIVAS
Los Jaivas appeared in the Chilean music scene in 1963 as a progressive rock group that mixed rock with South American ancestral music. The group first formed as High Bass, but later changed it to a “Chilean” pronunciation of the words. When Chile found itself in the grips of a military dictatorship, the band took refuge in Argentina and France. Deaths may have changed the makeup of the group, but this band will never die. LAURA WARSHAUER
Laura Warshauer’s “Sweet 17” reads like a page from the failed dating book of heartbroken artists who took memories of unrequited love and turned their pain into “in your face” music. Recipient of the first-ever Buddy Holly Award for songwriting, Warshauer’s 2011 debut The Pink Chariot Mixtape quickly placed this fresh-faced newcomer on the map with her uniquely bluesy voice that sounds wise beyond her years. LAST DJ STANDING RUNNER-UP
This slot will be awarded to the runner-up of this year’s Last DJ Standing/Lolla Remix contest, in which hundreds of DJs submitted mixes of The Delta Spirit’s “California” online. As of press time, the four finalists chosen by judges and popular vote were Buckingham (Chicago), Youngblood (Germany), HLM (California) and Soifer (Wilmette). The winner will be chosen by an industry panel following a live DJ battle at Evil Olive on July 28. (Saturday, 12:00-12:45, Perry’s) –text: Jay Gentile
