Friday, 1-3
The Naked & Famous, Los Bunkers, Ceci Bastida, Tennis, Reptar, Electric Touch, Ana Tijoux, and The Delta Spirit will be performing at Lollapalooza 2011 between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5.

THE NAKED AND FAMOUS
New Zealand’s Naked & Famous have been likened to MGMT and Empire of the Sun, but upon first listen the beginning of their song “All of Me” conjures up visions of A-Ha’s “Take on Me” (for those of you old enough to remember). There’s plenty of synth-poppiness made for dancing, but pause the bopping long enough and you’ll notice real emotion permeating songs such as closer “Girls Like You.” (Friday, 1:30-2:15, Sony Stage) –text: Lisette Medina

LOS BUNKERS
Chilean quintet Los Bunkers is the intriguing lovechild of ‘70s Britain and rich South American culture: chill but fresh, sarcastic yet affectionate. Largely inspired by The Beatles, two brothers and a friend came together in 1999 and soon became a local hit. Their international popularity grows as they redefine pop norms with a style that employs sultry Spanish voices to coax romance from the harsh grunge of guitar, one thing even The Beatles never tried. CECI BASTIDA
Tijuana native and L.A. transplant Ceci Bastida is an artist on the rise. After 12 years in a nondescript punk band, Bastida went solo. Her music is rife with political commentary, owning a funky edge and a “power to the people” energy. The L.A. scene inspired her music, but she continues to pay respect to her Mexican roots. For years she has been covering The Clash’s classic “Spanish Bombs”, which fits her musical pastiche like a beret fits Che Guevera. (Friday, 1-1:30, BMI Stage) –text: Angie Martin

TENNIS
Husband and wife Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley met studying philosophy in college and have since formed Tennis, a soothing rock-pop duo with electronic elements. Fans of simple yet still elegant and groovy rock will enjoy Alaina’s doo-wop vocals mixed with Beach Boys-inspired instrumentals that are tailor-made for an outdoor August show. Fans of Best Coast and surf rock may come to discover Tennis as their new favorite band of the summer. (Friday, 1-1:45, Google+ Stage) –text: Ian Jones

REPTAR
You’re probably not sure what to expect from a band that calls themselves a “space chasm electro dance pop band from Darthlantaville”, but give their upcoming EP Oblange Fizz Y’all one listen and you’ll understand. Produced by Ben Allen of Animal Collective, Reptar finds a way to integrate piano, drums, electronic beats and diverse samples into sing-song melodies and catchy danceable arrangements. With an energy and enthusiasm that can’t be confined, Reptar is a must-see live act. (Friday, 2:15-3, Google+ Stage) –text: Amy Simms

ELECTRIC TOUCH
What happens when American rockers join forces with the British? Forty years ago, we would guess The Beatles. Today, the answer is Electric Touch. The quintet’s sonic science is adorned with classic guitar riffs, catchy basslines and vocals that bring simplicity and comfort in an instant. However, they are not retired from engaging in some unfettered guitar solos and vigorous melodies. The group’s dynamic personalities and playing style allow them to write tracks we all can relate to. (Friday, 2-2:30, BMI Stage) –text: Angie Martin

ANA TIJOUX
If you haven’t heard of Chilean/French hip-hop sensation Ana Tijoux, your ears are missing out on one of today’s most influential female MCs. Her most notable album, 1977, is more than a year from the Carter administration. Representing her Chicano and hip-hop roots, her Spanish flows are tongue twisters mixed with urban beats influenced by electronica and jazz. Tijoux’s set is a must-see that will leave you fist pumping, beat bumping and tongue-tied. (Friday, 1:45-2:30, Perry’s) –text: Ciera McKissick

THE DELTA SPIRIT
Bang a trash can and an orchestral-based drum. Set it to spiritual lyrics, and you have The Delta Spirit. Debut album Ode to Sunshine was recorded inside a cabin in the mountains — and it shows with an innovative, captivating spin on indie rock. All you soul-searching people come check out The Delta Spirit for a life-affirming, party-starting set of good-time jams that will pull you out of the port-o-pottie and onto the dance floor. (Friday, 2:15-3, Music Unlimited Stage) –text: Carrie Wittmer
