Generally speaking, tattoos and long hair are part and parcel of rockstardom. Yelawolf, a tattoo-covered hip-hop artist native to Alabama, breaks that general rule. In his 10-year career he has collaborated with a range of artists including Eminem, Kid Rock, Travis Barker and Blink-182. The collaborations bust genre barriers by integrating rap, rock and country to map out unmarked musical territories. Yelawolf’s lyrics are quick and cutting, surprisingly sleek and downright distinctive from other hip-hop artists that flood the airwaves with noise. He is an artist who spits truth and knowledge, owning an awareness of diversity as well as an innate understanding of what it really means to connect with the culture of hip-hop.
