BY JONNA NEWBERRY
From The White Stripes to The Black Keys and every color in between, blues-based rock and roll has made quite a comeback in recent years. And Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears plan to help it stick around for a while. Drawing influence from James Brown and Wilson Pickett, Lewis and company incorporate the shouting and howling of these legendary singers with their own funky up-tempo blues grooves happily thrown into the mix. In their latest single “PTP”, the Austin-based sextet has taken all their funky beats along with just the right amount of shouting to bring Chicago the greatest amount of blues-based listening pleasure this side of Buddy Guy’s.
