Nouvelle Vague means “new wave” in French. That makes it quite fitting that the French duo cover ‘70s and ‘80s new wave tracks that are now well-known classics. Since all of their tracks feature soft female vocalists, one might be confused to know the band is comprised of two males. Half of Nouvelle Vague (Marc Collins) is known for his innate capacity to find the finest female vocalists and include them in the band’s various covers. Each cover is a stripped-down version of its original, highlighting acoustic and classical guitar, percussion and the band’s own brainy integration of jazz. The tracks definitely deliver a different attitude than expected, as if the female voice is reinterpreting the entire track. The beauty of Nouvelle Vague is they are paying homage to the original song makers while allowing new listeners to uncover the hits of former generations.
