XXL recently released its much-ballyhooed 2017 “Freshman Class” and, while it questionably didn’t include any Chicago talent, it did include Pitchfork performer and up-and-coming rapper Kamaiyah. She released her mixtape A Good Night in the Ghetto last year, and obviously it was good enough to earn her a nod in one of the country’s finest festivals for incubating hip hop talent. In “How Does It Feel,” she openly wonders about what it’s like to have money, perhaps pondering what it’ll be like for her to have cash after she’s been broke her whole life. On the next track “Mo Money Mo Problems” (yes, it’s really called that), she’s much more comfortable with wealth as she brashly drowns her problems in champagne and fur coats. More recently, Kamaiyah was featured on the Lil Yachty track “All Around Me” along with YG for Yachty’s album Teenage Emotions. Needless to say, she killed it…like she’s about to kill it on Friday in Union Park.
