Like a junkie chasing the feeling of that first high, The Killers seem to have been chasing the success of debut album Hot Fuss their entire career. Unfortunately for them, they’ve so far been unsuccessful. Fortunately for us, that means more amazing music from the once-mighty Las Vegas rockers. Their 2017 release Wonderful Wonderful may be the closest they’ve come to replicating the magic of their early work, yet regardless of how closely they get to that studio success their live performances have only gotten better over the years. A festival staple in both Europe and the United States, The Killers get top billing at this year’s Lolla because they’ve earned it. A stadium sound with intimate lyrics and world-class stage presence makes for a potent concert experience no matter how you slice it. The high of seeing The Killers live is enough to keep us chasing it every chance we get.
