If you’ve ever attended a show at Evanston SPACE, chances are you’ve seen him. A tall figure silently observing in the back of the room, often times silhouetted by the dim lighting. His name is Dave Specter, and he owns the joint. Aside from being a respectable business owner, he is also a highly accomplished blues guitarist himself, having been a fixture at local blues clubs since the 1980s. On a good night, if you’re lucky, you will find Specter sitting in with the band, his hard-charging blues pouring out of his guitar with every note. As blues clubs of the old days find themselves being replaced by a steady diet of seedy dance clubs and bars, one thing is for certain: Dave Specter and SPACE will do everything in their power to keep the blues alive.
