Australia’s psychedelic rock/pop funk juggernaut Tame Impala is closing out Friday’s festivities with an elaborate set of exquisite grooves. The band returns to Grant Park, with their last Chicago festival being their iconic sunset spectacle at 2015’s Lollapalooza (mere weeks after the release of Grammy-award winning album Currents). The kaleidoscopic project is fronted by vocalist Kevin Parker, who’s nothing short of a musical genius. Fun fact: Parker writes, produces, records, mixes, and plays all instruments for the studio albums. He then rehearses with the live band, comprised of members of Aussie ensemble POND (in which Parker used to play drums). For 2019, Tame Impala have released smash singles like “Borderline”, graced Saturday Night Live’s stage, and debuted dazzling new light spectacles and stage production at earlier fests. With no release date in sight for album #4, who knows what to expect during this set? In Parker’s famous words: LET IT HAPPEN.
