Ingesting good rock music is a lot like eating a good ass slice of pie, with insides sweet enough to make the teeth chatter under a deliciously savory exterior. That’s just what The Revivalists’ album Men Amongst Mountains is like to listen to. The seven-piece New Orleans outfit blesses us with soulful vocals, notably in “Wish I Knew You,” layered atop a tasty vibe that’s equal parts dreamy and funky. (Is “dream-funk” a thing?) “King of What” has its flavors rooted in Americana before we’re taken back to church for dessert with “Move On”, a soulfully satisfying track about taking a love that is known to be deserved.
