By ’86 after little less than a year as a band, Leeds, England’s The Wedding Present recorded their first session with the iconic BBC radio host John Peel. The following year saw the release of their astounding debut LP George Best, which earned the band critical acclaim both for its tumultuous guitar pop sound as well as David Gedge’s gutturally lovelorn lyrics. Despite the remarkable Steve Albini-produced Bizarro in ‘89 and ‘91s Seamonsters, Gedge soon looked up and found himself to be the only remaining band member by ’94.
