It felt almost impossible for the entirety of a recent 3-4 year span to enter any sort of party and not expect to hear one of the beautifully muggy electro rock bangers from The xx. The atmospheric English band formed in London in 2005, quickly erupting and devouring devoted fans instantaneously with lyrics like: “Watch things on VCRs / With me and talk about big love / I think we’re superstars / You say you think we are the best thing / But you, you just know / You just do.” There is something cosmic and warmly embracing about The xx, like your favorite blanket wrapped in stardust packaged with wickedly crafted basslines and simple yet energetic harmonies cascading down your spine in a cool stylized fashion. With their third LP I See You, the band finds themselves expanding on their voluptuous sound to give birth to one of the year’s most original records. Get dance-y, space-y, and heady with The xx.
